Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu published an image on his X account on Sunday showing a nuclear bomb striking Tel Aviv, according to Sky TG24. The post accompanied a message from writer Yuval Blumberg warning that Israel faces a genuine existential threat. The publication came amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran.
Why it matters
The post frames the Iranian nuclear question as Israel's overriding priority. According to the text Netanyahu shared, if Iran were to obtain nuclear weapons, nothing else would matter, and all other concerns would be dwarfed by what it described as the existential danger posed by Iran and the Shia axis. The same message said Israel has two more years of the Trump presidency to finish the job with Iran.
The image itself drew scrutiny: Il Fatto Quotidiano described it as a fake photo of a nuclear strike on Tel Aviv, and framed the post around a warning of the risk of a second Holocaust.
US intelligence warning on diplomats
Separately, US intelligence services sent a memorandum to Secretary of State Marco Rubio warning that Iran is seeking to kill American diplomats in the Middle East and in other countries, according to Sky TG24. Two Iranian officials, one of them a member of the Revolutionary Guard, told the New York Times that Tehran's expanded target list in the event of an attack includes diplomats and US personnel. In their view, attacks on Americans are "legitimate." It is not clear, however, whether they have the means to carry them out.
CNN reported that the United States is rushing to evacuate some diplomats and their families from missions in the Middle East. Israeli forces also carried out a raid in the northern West Bank, arresting dozens of Palestinians, according to the same reporting.
Trump weighs deal against escalation
President Donald Trump said he is considering whether to reach an agreement with Iran or intensify the conflict, asserting that Washington now controls the Strait of Hormuz. In a telephone interview with Fox News, Trump said the only question is whether he destroys them — something he described as very easy to do — or strikes a deal with them. He said Iran had never been hit so hard, adding that the US now controls the Strait of Hormuz, that Iran gets nothing and that the US gets everything.
Missile debris injures two in Saudi Arabia
Two people were injured in southwestern Saudi Arabia when debris from two ballistic missiles fired by Yemen's Houthi rebels fell after Saudi defenses intercepted them over the Khamis Mushait and Ahad Rufaidah areas, official sources said. A spokesman for Saudi civil defense said emergency teams responded at both locations after missile fragments caused material damage to three residential buildings and seven vehicles following the interception and destruction of the projectiles.
The injured were a Saudi citizen and a resident of Asian nationality, according to the statement, which gave no further details on their condition. Civil defense said standard procedures for such situations were followed without providing more information on the extent of the damage. The incident came a day after debris from intercepted ballistic missiles fell in several areas of Saudi Arabia, including residential zones and Wadi al-Mughammas, about five kilometers east of the holy city of Mecca, though no injuries were reported in those cases.
The Houthis, allies of Iran, have stepped up attacks on Saudi targets in recent weeks. Saudi Arabia, which leads the coalition backing Yemen's internationally recognized government, has reported projectiles launched toward various regions of the kingdom. Earlier, the spokesman for the Saudi-led military coalition, Turki al-Malki, confirmed that ten ballistic missiles launched by the Houthis from neighboring Yemen toward the south of the Gulf monarchy had been intercepted and destroyed.
Strike on Gaza City university
At least three people were killed in an Israeli air strike on the University of Gaza City, where eight others were wounded, according to medical sources and university staff. The civil defense in the Gaza Strip reported four more deaths in the enclave on the same day. The Israeli military said it was checking the reports.
Al Shifa hospital said it received three bodies and treated eight people wounded in the drone attack on Gaza City, while two sources at the Islamic University said the dead were administrative staff and the wounded were students. Gaza's education ministry said in a statement that students were wounded while in classrooms attending lessons, noting that 95 percent of academic institutions in Gaza have been destroyed by the war.
Mahmoud Bassal, spokesman for Gaza's civil defense, also said two people were killed in an Israeli air strike in the southern city of Khan Yunis, one in the central Deir al Balah area and one in the northern Gaza Strip.
What to watch next is whether Washington moves toward talks with Tehran or further escalation, and how the evacuation of US diplomatic personnel proceeds.
